On Saturday, April 2, the Pennsylvania Resources Council (PRC) will partner with Allegheny County and The Ohringer to conduct a free Backyard Composting workshop for Braddock/Rankin/Duquesne residents. The one-hour workshop, funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, will take place at 10:30 a.m. in The Ohringer gallery space at 640 Braddock Avenue, Braddock, PA 15104.
During the session, individuals will learn the benefits of backyard composting, including the overall process, methods for setting up a compost pile, proper maintenance and ways to use finished compost. Following the workshop, each participant will receive a free 82-gallon compost bin.
“Nearly a quarter of your waste stream is compostable,” according to instructor Nancy Martin of PRC. “By learning how to compost, residents can easily expand their recycling efforts to include kitchen scraps, leaves and yard debris.”
Pre-registration is required for this free workshop. To register or to request more information, contact Nancy Martin at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
